Guess who got their ears pierced!

Ansley has been asking us for a while if she could get her ears pieced, so on Monday after dance I took her to Claire's to get them pierced, but the lady working asked if I would bring her back in one day when there were two people working. She was afraid she might get one pierced and get too scared to get the second one done, so she wanted to wait and do both of them at the exact same time. So, tonight we went in there and she hopped right up in the chair, held the "Claire's Bear," and was so brave sitting there waiting on the two ladies to pierce her ears. She picked out the star earrings to be pierced, I signed the paper work, and then on the count of three she had both ears pierced. She tried so hard to not cry, but a few seconds after it was done the tears came, but only last for a few minutes. She was so excited and loves them!

Here she is right before:

And right after:

It didn't take long for those tears to go away and she was showing her ears off to everyone:

  1. Wendy,

Was searching for a GF's blog and came across yours. Started reading and came across your humorous post about your dd, Ansley, wanting her ears pierced. Don't know if considering having her younger siblings ears pierced now or not. However, I had to pause and laugh because my ODD was similarly determined to have her ears pierced too. It was just peer pressure and a matter of time till her younger sisters had them done :)

When I had our ODD done , after seeing how cute she looked with earrings, dh wanted me to go ahead and have her younger sisters done too. I was unsure since the middle girl was almost 2 yrs younger with a six month baby girl as well. Told dh I would ask our ped for her advice.

Well, I didn't expect what happened next. Our ped actually encouraged me to go ahead saying it was best when mommy could care for them. She said it have become more popular to pierce newborns, infants and little girls ears because is safer with the newer ear piercing instruments than the older methods. She gave me some suggestions for moms having their dd's ears pierced which included some OTC meds to minimize any discomfort. She said doing them as early as possible when mommy could care for them was best.

I didn't have long to wait. One day, dh calls out to me from the family room asking me to come in there. Our 2 yr had gotten a pair of my earrings and was asking dh how to put them in her ears! She almost put one in her ear canal! Dh laughed and told me to take her to have them pierced before we had to take her to the ER to remove an earring!

At this point, I was ready and told dh I started seeing other little babies including two in church nursery and another little girl in our playgroup with earrings. I finally realized how cute our little toddler and her younger sister would look with cute earrings. I yielded to pressure from dh, my mommy intuition and knowing how cute all the girls would look with little earrings. Almost in a spur of the moment, I decided to have our 6 mo dd's ears pierced too :) She did great with her older two year old sister going first.

I dont' know if you've considered having your younger YDD's done, but I promise both will want them done later. Doing when you can care for them is the best time.

If any other moms would like some more info or our ped's tips, write me an e-mail.

    1. That is funny, Angie, and yes... our 2 year old is already saying she wants her pierced. I wouldn't be as worried to get our almost 6 months old pierced as I would our 2 year old, because I am worried she will mess on them too much and jerk them out or get them infected. So did your 2 year old do fine with hers pierced?
      Thanks for the comment!
